Join Extinction Rebellion Chichester Today and Rebel for Life
We are an ever-growing group of like-minded people from all walks of life, determined to make a stand on climate change and biodiversity loss. Extinction Rebellion is an international organisation with groups all over the world.
In the UK, regional groups exist in nearly every city. These groups are autonomous, so they take on their own actions, as well as participating in larger national events.
EXTINCTION REBELLION’S PRINCIPLES AND VALUES
We are a group with an underpinning principle of nonviolence and a no-blame culture. We use civil disobedience and non-violent direct action to force change. We welcome everyone and every part of everyone. We are not affiliated to any political party.
EXTINCTION REBELLION’S CORE MESSAGES
We are in an ecological crisis, mass extinction is already happening, human extinction is a real risk.
The window for change is narrow, a matter of years, and though difficult, many of the necessary changes will make our lives better.
Our Government’s inaction makes them criminally complicit, so it is our right and our duty to follow our conscience and rebel through non-violent civil disobedience.
EXTINCTION REBELLION’S THREE DEMANDS
1 The Government must tell the truth about the ecological crisis, develop policies that offer a sustainable solution and work with the media to explain these ideas to the public.
2 The Government must enact legally binding legislation to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2025.
3 The Government must set up Citizens’ Assemblies to help set the policy and oversee these changes.
XR CHICHESTER’S STRATEGY
Our main aim at Extinction Rebellion Chichester is to organise ourselves so we can support and take part in national events as well as developing local initiatives designed to make us all more aware that we are living in a climate emergency.
We will do this through organising talks and events and encouraging ourselves – the people – to wrest the initiative and responsibility for change back off a political establishment that has proven itself so inadequate in confronting the challenges facing us.
There are many ways in which you can get involved in Extinction Rebellion. Not everyone is ready or able to commit to non-violent civil disobedience, with the possibility of being arrested.
But there are many other equally important roles if the rebellion is to be a success. For every person willing to take the risk of being arrested we need people:
► who are prepared to plan events;
► to use their creative skills to make props and banners;
► to provide back-up support and legal advice;
► to record events, network and write publicity;
► to help with recruitment, training and fund raising;
► to give talks and raise awareness of climate change and more generally to spread the word and provide positive encouragement, ideas and support for the group.
Everyone is welcome. If you can commit to supporting our campaign of non-violent, peaceful, civil disobedience to help save the planet from the worst effects of global warming and build a peaceful and sustainable future for our children, please join us.
